Let's talk about bots!

Hello everyone. After speaking with a Moderator about the countless requests of bots or selling of bots, we decided to have an official bot thread to discuss and educate.

It seems every online release now is turning out looking like the battle of cyberton.

As you all know I am a reseller and I do not hide it. I have had the pleasure of selling to a few on Reddit as well as eBay, Craigslist, Facebook, Solecollector. Any good reseller has knowledge not only about shoes and the market, but other factors such as bots, RSVP services, production numbers etc. My specialty isn't in bots, I have had the opportunity to test multiple bots for multiple sites. Plus I have an engineering degree in electrical and computer engineering so I feel confident enough to share my views. OK enough with the introduction here I go!

What is a bot?

A bot plain and simple is a computer application that runs parallel with something to serve a function. I know its vague, I will elaborate later. The first time I heard of a bot was when I played Counter-Strike 1.6. Someone had an “aimbot” which allowed the for the automatic aim of the gun to the head of opposing players thus giving head shots. Bots in the sneaker game is no different, it gives the user an unfair advantage by automating certain functions. A bot in this piece has many shapes in forms. I will list a few common bots:

Auto Add to Cart bots (ATC/ADC) Usually a script or extension file loaded into a browser that automatically selects your size and adding to your cart. This is probably one of the most common ones, I have played around with a few of these. They are straightforward, usually they require minimal programming. You program the size and when the page of the sneaker is released it will automatically select your size and add to cart for you to check out. This eliminates the precious seconds of the user selecting the correct size and hitting that add to cart button.

Auto checkout bots This is bot does exactly what you think. You would program your name, address, credit card info, and email into it. In return the bot would check out automatically for you, filling in all the information you programmed. This is less popular and less used due to the fact that usually when an item is in your cart you pretty much have the shoe purchased.

Twitter Scanners Bots This bot sounds is pretty straightforward too. Especially for Nike, a lot of things are TLO (Twitter link only). It constantly pings twitter based on keywords to obtain and launch the link for the shoes. Twitter's API has a request frequency threshold; meaning, you can't just constantly ping it for feed updates, it's throttled, and they will suspend your API key if you exceed the limit. Meaning depending on how its written it can be ineffective. This can also be super sensitive too.

Cloud Bot I have heard of this recently, it is a service you pay. You give your account info to a website and pay them $X. They would add the item you want to your cart and then tell you to log in and you would see the item in your cart and you check out yourself. Not really a bot but a service.

Image Recognition Bots This bot is advanced no doubt in my mind. This bot is used for Nike twitter RSVPs. For anyone who doesn't know what a Nike RSVP is check here . What it will do is it will scan images for a certain keyword and tweet it directly to the Nike location during its RSVP. This requires image to data recognition which is beyond my pay grade. These bots can crack capcha codes too if ever implemented. I know these image recognition bots exist just waiting for their time.

Ethics of Bot Use

Here it goes! I hear the argument “if the retailers aren't doing anything about bots then I am going to join them if I can't beat them”. It is not wrong to feel this way, I do feel Nike and other retailers can do more to restrict bot use and there are simple things they can implement such as click counters, or capcha codes as mentioned before. Nike by far is the most active in terms of battling bots, the dreaded cancellation email see here. You run the risk of using bots via Nike and it does exist. Nike has go as far as to redirect orders back to Nike from people they suspect use bots. I have also heard of Nike banning certain users permanently from buying anything from Nike ever again. Just remember when you live by the sword you can get hurt with a sharp edge, if that is how the saying goes. BTW I failed ethics in college so I don't think I should comment any more in this section.

This is how I feel about bot use - here

First Rule of Fight Club

How To Download Aio Bot

What is the first rule of Fight Club? We don't talk about Fight Club. This applies to bots too, I am breaking the rules by explaining my experience and knowledge of bots. Why? Is it because I am a prick who doesn't want to share? No, not really. First off if more people have bots it creates greater competition for sneakers. You share the bot with one person, that person shares it with two more people and a snowball effect occurs. If this were to happen people would be forced to dabble in more advanced higher tier bots (see next section). Worse of all, if sharing of bots gets too widespread, retailers could change their site layout to prevent bots. This has happened once last year for Nike and for Footlocker. I personally keep the bots I use low-key – I don't try and sell the ones I use nor do I flaunt my pickups.

Time to go Bot Shopping!

OK you are ready for a bot, you need a bot. You got your Paypal account loaded, you see posts for bots on Facebook, online, twitter, etc. What to buy? First off not all bots are created equal – see next section. Just like anything in life, there are some crappy one dollar store speed sticks and then there is Gillette deodorant which rocks. If you read anything in this stupid thing this should be the most important, don't overpay for a bot. I would pay $20 maximum for any bot. Also make sure the user proves to you he has obtained some coveted releases. Have him show you a screen cap with his name with a Doernbecher or a prelude Kobe before you make your purchase. You don't want a bot from someone who can get Fire Red 5s, my mom could get Fire Red 5. First off you already dabbling in the grey market as they say, what makes you say that $20 bot works or better yet effective? Chances are, whatever bot you buy will be a low tier bot. Why? Think about it? Why would this guy sell you a bot he is using? Sure its possible he really needs the money but chances are in the long run if he wants to continue using this bot he would not sell it. See the rules of Fight Club. By sharing the bot he uses, he himself creates more competition for himself.

Different Tiers of Bots I have seen different tiers of bots, I would say most bots for sale would range from $10 to $40 are low tier bots. I personally have a low tier bot but I made some modifications to it so it is a custom bot which I would rate a mid tier bot judging by it's success. The high tier bots I personally have never seen but I know exist somewhere! These bots will never go on sale. Why? Think about it, you have a super bot that is highly effective and efficient. Why in the world would you sell it? You can get two – lets say three Doernbecher foamposites or Prelude Kobes. Why would you not keep using the bot? Why would you sell it? This is like the opposite of the teaching a man to fish lesson. They say if you give a man a fish, he is fed for a day, teach the man to fish and he will never grow hungry. This is the opposite! You want to keeping selling fish to make money. You don't want other fisherman fishing, you want the pond by yourself.

I AM TIRED I just finished typing this thing up and man am I tired. Sorry for type-oh or run on sentences or grammar. I have posted a link of my bot in action if anyone is interested. Click http://bit.ly/4v76x5v password is flghtclub.

TLDR: Don't pay more than $20 for a bot. Make sure seller proves legit screen caps of his success and order history. Get familiar with the common bots listed above.

EDIT1 As /u/pomaz stated I forgot to mention it does help to have a good computer and good internet connection. Although I can attest to failing on a Dell engineering workstation on a fiber based enterprise network and my friend getting it with his crappy 8 year old mac.

Please do not advertise or link your bot posts in this post - this is a post to educate and ask questions not for anyone's personal gain - It will be removed
